Being a physician, there wasn’t much room for creativity at the clinic, so I turned to a variety of projects outside of work for a creative outlet. When my first daughter was born, I read through the instruction manual for a sewing machine that I had received as a gift, and found a new passion! I made a beautiful bedding set for her crib and I couldn’t stop making baby products. Up until now, my friends still get handmade baby gifts from me!
Baking was a totally different story. I never enjoyed following recipes, so I didn’t think baking would be for me, but I ended up loving the artistic component of designing cakes and bringing an idea to life! My kids requested a fancy fondant cake for one of their birthdays several years ago and I couldn’t find one that I liked, so I decided to try to make one myself. I won’t lie, there definitely have been some cake fails! But ultimately, I strive to try new techniques, and make my cakes better and better.
